Yellow pigment in veggies protects against eye disease

Yellow pigments found in some vegetables, including corn and squash, may help protect older women against age-related vision loss, a U.S. study suggests.

Researchers at the University of Wisconsin in Madison studied 1,787 women ages 50 to 79. The study found those younger than 75 who ate a diet rich in the carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin appeared to have a lower risk of intermediate age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

Wild Waters Launches First Vitamin-powered Naturally-flavored ...

31/08/06 A new beverage brand, Wild Waters, launches the first vitamin-powered, naturally-flavored bottled water made just for kids. Wild Waters boasts 60 to 70 percent less sugar and calories than the leading sugary juices and soft drinks and is free of any controversial artificial sweeteners or high fructose corn syrup. Packed with the specific nutrients identified by the USDA as lacking in children's diets, Wild Waters is available in six great fruit flavors kids love and parents can feel good about buying.

Water may be the healthiest beverage on earth, but kids find it boring regardless of predictable marketing gimmicks like cartoon characters on the labels. Kids want flavor and a brand of their own, not just a shrunken version of their parents' drink. Unlike other bottled kids beverages, Wild Waters blends the taste and look kids want with the important nutritional value parents approve.

Your Health Comes First!

Before being diagnosed a diabetic in 2003, I did not focus a great deal on my diet or the nutritional value of the foods that I was eating. I never thought that food would be my enemy. But because so many foods that our families eat today are synthetic, processed and have poor nutritional value, I had to take a step back and make a lifestyle change. At first, I was in denial and informed my doctor that I wanted to try controlling my diabetes solely through watching my diet. After a follow-up visit, my blood-glucose levels had not made a significant change. So I began taking daily insulin shots to manage my blood sugar. In addition, there was an about-face with exercise and proper rest. I lost 65 pounds over the next 6 months. My body had not looked this good in a long time and my energy level was soaring.
