Summer Superfruits

If you're hoping to lose weight, save your skin from the damaging effects of the sun or alleviate the symptoms of hayfever, eating berries is the answer. Strawberries and raspberries are the "superfruits of the century" according to Patrick Holford, the leading nutritionist, founder of the Institute for Optimum Nutrition and author of this year's best-selling Holford Diet.

While the Government recommends eating five servings of fruit and vegetables a day, not all fruits are equal. Strawberries and raspberries contain ten essential nutrients. Not only is this more than are found in other foods, five of the nutrients are not found in any multi-vitamin pill. According to Patrick Holford, who on behalf of British Summer Fruits analysed all fruits, strawberries, followed by raspberries, came out top.

Well-being in a bottle

You dont usually associate intelligence with skincare. Then again, Aesop isnt your usual beauty label. SYIDA LIZTA AMIRUL IHSAN takes a closer look at this clever Melbourne brand.

YOU need more than an ounce of intelligence to appreciate Aesop because here is a label which doesnt advertise, have pretty packaging or link itself to a famous face. In fact, aside from its eye cream, none of its product comes in a box. This skincare label is only concerned about the botanicals that goes into its amber brown glass bottles. If you cannot see past this striped sticker on my body to get to the ingredients inside, the Aesop bottle seems to say, then its your loss. There is undisputed confidence in Aesop, and for a good reason. The brand started in 1987, when its founder, Dennis Paphitis, ran a hair salon.

Your Health Comes First!

Before being diagnosed a diabetic in 2003, I did not focus a great deal on my diet or the nutritional value of the foods that I was eating. I never thought that food would be my enemy. But because so many foods that our families eat today are synthetic, processed and have poor nutritional value, I had to take a step back and make a lifestyle change. At first, I was in denial and informed my doctor that I wanted to try controlling my diabetes solely through watching my diet. After a follow-up visit, my blood-glucose levels had not made a significant change. So I began taking daily insulin shots to manage my blood sugar. In addition, there was an about-face with exercise and proper rest. I lost 65 pounds over the next 6 months. My body had not looked this good in a long time and my energy level was soaring.
